Dean McKee, the artist behind Inside Ink, spent 30 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. For decades, his life was defined by a system that got it wrong. But through it all, he never stopped creating — and he never stopped fighting.

While incarcerated, Dean created art with whatever he had access to. Limited tools. Limited freedom. Unlimited vision.
He even built his own tattoo machine — just to continue practicing his craft. That same energy now lives in every tattoo he creates today. There's intention behind every line. Focus behind every piece. And a deep respect for the opportunity to be here — doing what he loves.
What most people spend years learning in a studio, Dean built from nothing — in conditions that would have broken most people. Instead, it forged him into the artist he is today.
📚 Fighting for Freedom
For 20 years, Dean spent his time in the prison law library — teaching himself the law, writing his own legal arguments, and fighting for his freedom. He refused to give up.
With the help of his cousin and loved ones, he continued pushing forward, challenging a wrongful conviction that never should have happened. That discipline — the same discipline that drives his art — kept him moving forward when the system gave him every reason to stop.

In 2011, the Innocence Project of Florida took on Dean's case and helped carry the fight forward. Their team works tirelessly to uncover the truth in wrongful conviction cases — giving a voice to those who have been unheard for far too long.
